Pella, Iowa birth + fresh 48 photographer

THE RAW BEAUTY OF BIRTH AND THOSE FIRST MOMENTS OF MEETING YOUR BABY FOR THE FIRST TIME ARE SACRED AND DESERVE TO BE CAPTURED.

Having a birth photographer allows you and your loved ones to be fully present in the moment. Instead of thinking about capturing photos or videos, they can focus on supporting the mother, bonding with baby, and cherishing every emotion as it naturally unfolds. I'll be there to quietly document your entire birth story, making sure no moment is overlooked, so you can hold on to these memories for years to come. If you want your birth story documents, I want to be there!

Fresh 48

This session is intended to capture the first glimpses of your new little family 24 - 48 hours after birth. A fresh 48 can occur at the hospital setting, birth center, or in the home. If complications occur and a NICU stay is required, the Fresh 48 can turn into an in-home session 10-14 days after or when you are all settled cozy in your home.

FAQ

How far will you travel to capture my birth?

Since birth can be very unpredictable in duration, I am comfortable traveling up to 60 miles from Pella, IA.

What locations do you offer birth photography?

I will photograph wherever you feel most safe and comfortable to have your baby. Home birth, birth center, hospital, etc.

What is your policy for being "on-call" surrounding my estimated delivery date (EDD)?

I am on-call 24/7 beginning two weeks prior to your EDD to one week following your EDD.

When should I contact you to inform you that I am in labor?

The sooner, the better! That way I have time to make arrangements and time out your labor so I am arriving just when I need to be. Proximity also makes a difference, too! If you are closer to 60 miles out, I will need to factor travel time into my departure.

When do you arrive to capture my birth story?

I will arrive to your location once active labor has begun (6cm dilated). If it is not your first child, or have had a history of fast labor, we will likely adjust accordingly.

I have always wanted my baby's birth photographed but I struggle to feel comfortable with the idea.

That is totally understandable. Birth is a very personal and sacred experience- something that I honor by being respectful to your wishes! Once I receive an inquiry from you, I will send a questionnaire to learn more about you, your family, and your wishes for your birth photography experience (what you would like captured, and what you do not). Around 4-8 weeks prior to your EDD, I will also reach out to set up a virtual meeting with you as a way to meet and greet you and your family. That way when baby day comes, my hope is that you are very comfortable with me and my presence and we have already established that rapport with one another!

I had a c-section with my first child and will have a repeat c-section. Does this exclude me from having my birth photographed?

Absolutely not! A c-section is just as much of a birth as any other way and is just as beautiful! As long as I am mentioned in your birth plan to attend, c-section births are totally possible.
